James M. Jeter has been named the new Creative Director of Polo Ralph Lauren. The Morehouse alum’s promotion also gives him the distinction of being the first Black man to have the role.
To this we say, What took so long?

The aforementioned HBCU bigged up its alum’s accomplishments in early August. Reportedly, Jeter has worked with Polo Ralph Lauren since graduating, starting as an intern before becoming a design associate and eventually a lead designer on the famed Morehouse and Spelman Collection by Polo Ralph Lauren that dropped in 2022.
Interestingly, a convo that Jeter had with Ralph Lauren himself in the wake of the racial unrest tied to the murder of George Floyd in 2020 is what lead to him frankly asking “Was the company going to remain all-white?.” The moment is credited with leading to the collection’s eventual creation after a series of discussions with Mr. Lauren about his Morehouse experience.
Polo Ralph Lauren still holds a special place in the hearts of fashionable Hip-Hop heads so we’re looking forward to see how Jeter—whose proper titled is Creative Director, Design & Brand Direction, Men’s—keeps pushing the brand forward.
