Tyler, The Creator — Chromakopia

Tyler, The Creator released his latest album Chromakopia on a Monday. The Los Angeles-based rapper-singer broke norms with this unconventional move but also generated plenty of excitement for what is now a critically-acclaimed body of work.

Tyler introduces a new masked character with this album. He wore this mask on the album artwork, in music videos, and listening experiences in Los Angeles and Atlanta. He talked about wearing this mask on the album as well and has said the mask is important for the album’s overall idea and intention.

“Now go and stand in the sun and use them fake tears to water your roots / Take that mask off and tell ’em the truth,” he raps on “Take Your Mask Off.” “Let’s talk about it.”

But that character isn’t alone on this album. Instead, Tyler taps some of the industry’s biggest names for this release. Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red, Doechii GloRilla, Daniel Caesar, and ScHoolboy Q are among the album’s features. As usual, Tyler handled the production with his signature sound.

The Creator talked about the album’s creation during his listening event in Los Angeles. “This album originally started about growing up in these areas,” he said. “I was like, ‘Oh sh-t. No one knows anything about me from before, like, 17. Folks like, ‘He’s from the suburbs.’ No…I was down the street…But the album just kind of turned into me taking a bunch of sh-t my mom told me when I was a kid.”

He continued: “Now that I’m 33, all of that stuff is like, ‘Oh, that’s what f-ck she was talking about! Oh, I’m not the guy that I was at 20! Oh sh-t!’ People are getting older. Folks having kids and families. And all I got is a new Ferrari and it does feel kind of weird after a while. I’m gaining weight. I got a grey hair on my chest. Life is life-ing and I dunno, I just wanted kind of just write about stuff that I think about when I’m dolo.”

Lil Uzi Vert — Eternal Take 2

Lil Uzi Vert is back with another LP. This time around, the eccentric artist delivers the follow-up to last year’s Pink Tape, and the sequel to his 2020 album, Eternal Atake.

The 16-song album features several producers, including Cashmere Cat, Brandon Finessin, Gabe Lucas, and Charlie Puth. Meanwhile, Big Time Rush appears on “The Rush.”

“Chill Bae” is the album’s new single. Prior to its release, Uzi indicated that the song would actually be titled “Chill Ebro.” This was likely a response to broadcaster Ebro Darden (Apple Music, New York’s Hot 97). Darden recently said “[Uzi] is still not the rockstar he said he would become,” according to Billboard.

To go along with the new album, Uzi also released the “Chill Bae” music video. It features an intergalactic theme. Vert is the star of an interstellar reality show where his every move is watched. Eventually, one fan tries to break him out of the surveillance bubble he’s in. And soon, Uzi takes flight in a space craft with his robot dog Goddard.

The Weeknd f. Anitta — “São Paulo”

What happens when two of the world’s biggest music stars join forces? The Weeknd and Brazilian star Anitta link up to answer that question with their newest collaboration, “São Paulo.”

“Baby, ride me the darkness of the night,” Weeknd sings on the track. “Kill me softly like you want me euthanized.” Abel produced the song alongside Mike Dean and Sean Solymar.

Abel and Anitta promoted the cut as a pregnancy. “It was meant to be kept a secret,” Anitta wrote in a caption to her first belly bump photo. “OMG… CONGRATS,” Weeknd replied. Soon, she shared an ultrasound of a skeleton-looking baby. “Isn’t he beautiful?” She asked. “WOW! HE LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL,” Weeknd replied.

The pregnancy theme continues in the song’s music video. A masked Anitta shows off her belly before vomiting, then lays on a water fountain while her belly comes to life. Soon, in a trippy visual trick, The Weeknd’s lips appear as her belly button.

Future f. Travis Scott — “South of France (Remix)”

It’s a Free Bandz and Cactus Jack collaboration as Future taps Travis Scott for his star-powered “South of France” remix.

Shortly after releasing his Mixtape Pluto album, Hendrix asks La Flame to jump on the standout song’s remix.

“South of France, it ain’t no Ocean Drive,” Scott raps in his verse. Later, he reiterates: “South of France, a movie out in Cannes.”

Southside, Wheezy, and Carlton produced the new banger. It seems like there’s a visual for the track. It features Scott in the studio, a helicopter, some boats, and plenty of jewelry. But the visual isn’t out yet.
