While the eyes of border security officials are perpetually fixated on America’s southern border (because, you know, that’s the border that has all the brown people on the other side), United States border patrol agents in Washington just seized more than $1.1 million worth of cocaine, not from the border of Mexico, but near the border of Canada.
According to USA Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release Monday that last week, the agents found two black backpacks in a wooded area near the border, and in those backpacks, they found “30 brick-like packages” containing 78 pounds of what was tested and proven to be cocaine. The Schedule II drugs were smuggled into the States through Canada, but, so far, no suspected smugglers have been apprehended. The cocaine is now in the possession of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
“Thanks to the vigilance of Blaine Sector Border Patrol agents these dangerous narcotics were prevented from reaching our communities,” said Chief Patrol Agent Rosario “Pete” Vasquez, according to the news release. “Our agents work tirelessly day in and day out to protect this nation, and this seizure highlights that crucial commitment.”
We all know that if 78 pounds worth of cocaine were found near the southern border, “Build that wall” America would be having a field day and they would be out in full force blaming the Biden administration and Democrats for drugs being flooded into the nation and drug dealers not being apprehended. But drugs coming through Canada? You can expect this to be a story that flies under the political radar, especially since Republicans have already successfully propagandized their MAGA messiah back into the White House and no longer have a reason to beat on that dead horse.
Drugs are everywhere, y’all. Stay safe and “just say no” and all that, but be aware.
