A judge has denied Jay-Z and his attorney’s bid to dismiss a lawsuit filed by an anonymous accuser who claims he and Sen “Diddy Combs” drugged and raped her at a VMAs after party in 2000 when she was 13 years old. Not only that, but the judge reprimanded Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, for being far too aggressive in their attempts to make the lawsuit (and likely the publicity that comes with it) disappear.
According to Vulture, Judge Analisa Torres ruled on Thursday that the plaintiff in the case, listed as “Jane Doe,” can continue her case anonymously for now, explaining in her ruling that “the weight of the factors tips in favor of allowing Plaintiff to remain anonymous, at least for this stage of the litigation.” Torres did mention that should the case go any further, the accuser may have to identify herself publicly.
But Torres didn’t stop there; she also admonished Spiro and the “Hard Knocks Life” rapper of being relentlessly “combative,” and she accused Spiro of having a “chronic inability to follow the rules,” warning the attorney not to test her further.
“Carter’s lawyer’s relentless filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client. The court will not fast-track the judicial process merely because counsel demands it,” Torres said in her five-page ruling, according to Sky News.
As previously reported, Jay-Z and Roc Nation have blasted the allegations against the Hip-Hop mogul and they have promised to wage a legal battle against his accuser’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, and prove that Buzbee is conspiring to extort him. On Dec. 20, the American Gangster artist fild an amendment complaint against Buzbee, accusing him of defamation and “naked extortion,” according to PEOPLE.
“In short, Defendants [Buzbee and his law firm] placed a gun to Mr. Carter’s head,” the filing read. He also accused Buzbee of going to the media before bothering to completely vet the accuser’s story.
“Beginning in October 2024, Buzbee spoke on any news platform that would have him, threatening that his firm has ‘a long list of names’ of people in the entertainment industry who he accused of ‘terrible conduct,’ and who ‘should be prosecuted and put underneath [sic] the jail,’” the complaint claims. “And Buzbee then gleefully announced to the world that one name on his ‘long list’ was Mr. Carter, claiming that he had engaged in criminal sexual assault.”
Buzbee denied this claim during a press conference, calling it “patently frivolous” and declaring it “will be dismissed.”
“I’ve never said a word about him. This is just another attempt to bully and intimidate me. It just won’t work,” Buzbee said. Buzbee also recently filed a lawsuit against Roc Nation, accusing the entertainment company of “barratry,” and claiming Jay’s attorneys offered a former client money in exchange for turning on him, according to TMZ.
