Death In Paradise – Britbox

Those blokes across the pond love a good police procedural. But Death In Paradise puts twist on the popular concept by setting it in Saint Marie, a fictional Caribbean Island, and British Territory, where a UK cop heads a team of local officers and detectives in solving weekly murders. The comedic series has its storytelling down to a science considering it’s currently on its 14th season and also inspired a spinoff (Beyond Paradise)—it even has holiday specials. Definitely worth a binge watch and you’ll be saying “Oh that’s so and so” since a number of now famed actors (like Lashana Lynch, Kingsley Bed-Adir, Steve Toussaint) had guest starring roles early in their careers.—Alvin aqua Blanco

Homicide Squad: New Orleans – A&E

Homicide Squad: New Orleans

I’m a huge fan of New Orleans, but I’d be lying if I said I don’t keep my head on a swivel when I’m there. That’s why my latest docuseries obsession, Homicide Squad: New Orleans on A&E, caught my attention. It follows detectives solving murders across the city, even in the heart of the French Quarter. Most of these cases stem from beef and the victims know their murderer. Great police work and a snitch or two, and the arrests pour in. You really see the power of this mostly Black homicide squad as they connect with the neighborhoods and bring closure to families. Beyond the crime, the series also captures the city’s spirit, showcasing how New Orleans honors the deceased with brass bands and celebrations of life—no place does it quite like they do. While the city gets a bad rep from crime, WDSU recently reported a 38% decrease in murders over the past year. You can’t help but wonder if it’s due to the incredible work of these detectives.—Lexi Felder

Court of Gold – Netflix

Netflix’s run of fire in-depth sports docuseries continues with Court of Gold. In previous titles, the content focused on the daily grueling grind of the most demanding professional sports leagues like the MLB, NFL, and NBA. Court of Gold ditches that formula and instead showcases the hunt for the gold medal in Men’s basketball at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Who wouldn’t want to see future Hall of Famers LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry interact with the league’s rising stars like Tyrese Haliburton and *especially* Anthony Edwards? Plus, it’s not just USA-focused; we also get to see a Nikola Jokić-led Serbian team absolutely lose it over the frustratingly tricky task of guarding Durant.
