As we come up on Diddy’s six months behind bars, the sex trafficking case against him has taken another turn in an already long and winding road.

One of his lawyers called it quits, but the rest of his legal team has introduced a new argument to free Diddy and avoid the decades he’s currently facing in prison.

According to documents from Deadline, the search warrants used to raid his mansions in Los Angeles and Miami were “unconstitutionally broad” in terms of what devices could be searched and what information from those devices is admissible.

Coupled with digging into his phone, iCloud accounts, and hotel room, the defense is arguing that it was overboard and “presented a grossly distorted picture of reality,” adding that authorities freely looked through his personal effects.

“On a theory that Mr. Combs’s entire life was a criminal enterprise, the government sought virtually limitless authority to seize any evidence related to that ‘enterprise’ — all his digital devices and the information they contained, all information in his iCloud accounts, plus troves of records and items in his houses, almost none of which was contraband,” reads the memo of law.

The heavily redacted filing is 30 pages long and also talks about a producer who’s one of Diddy’s accusers, downplaying his experience by saying his accusations have been contradicted, adding that his damning text messages were taken out of context and that other witnesses were motivated by money to “fabricate or embellish.”

So, his legal team wants a Franks hearing, which will challenge the validity of the executed search warrants in hopes of throwing it out.

This comes days after Anthony Ricco, the lawyer who quit the defense team, gave no reason for his decision, but according to an affidavit obtained by People, he expressed that “under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs,”

Combs has pled not guilty to charges of acketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and prostitution charges. However, accounts of sexual assault from both men and women continue to mount against the former mogul as he denies all allegations or says they’re consensual accounts.
