Rejoice, comic book fanboys, for it’s finally happening!

This past Wednesday (March 26), Marvel Studios held a huge announcement event on their official social media channels to announce the cast of their highly-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, and while the list didn”t include the likes of Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) or Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), they did manage to shock fans with some original X-Men actors we thought we’d never see again.

Building hype for the film by revealing a long line of director chairs with the names of the actors participating in the upcoming Avengers film, familiars like Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America) and of course Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom) were expected. What had fans in a frenzy was the revelation that original X-Men actors such as Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto) and even Channing Tatum (Gambit) were added to the very long list of fan favorite mutants returning to the big screen and joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for it’s latest epic.

With that being said it looks like we’ll be getting some sort of Avengers vs. X-Men event during Doomsday before they ultimately put their differences aside to take down Doctor Doom in the already announced Avengers: Secret Wars.

Interestingly enough big names such as Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) were noticeably absent from the big reveal. While we know Marvel likes to play things close to the chest, Cumberbatch stated not too long ago that he would be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday after initially saying he hadn’t gotten the call to appear in the film. Why Marvel would leave him out after he confirmed his participation in the film left many fans scratching their heads in confusion. Should he actually be participating in the film but was left out of the announcement, that has left many wondering who else is Marvel might be hiding in the cast? Why have Gambit, who made his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine, but not include Deadpool and Wolverine? None of the Spider-Men after they all joined the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

The full list of names are below.

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman

What could Marvel have up its sleeve for fans? How much screen time will the OG X-Men get in Avengers: Doomsday and what will they bring to the story?

While the revelation had comic book fans all in their feelings, it did raise a lot more questions than it answered and we can’t wait to find out what it leads to as Avengers: Doomsday has officially gone into production.
