A$AP Rocky Blacks Out His First Ray-Ban Collection

A$AP Rocky is wasting no time after making history as Ray-Ban’s first-ever creative director.
After teasing his first drop while announcing the appointment last month, he’s finally unveiling the Blacked Out Collection to the world.
The Harlem-born rapper keeps things streamlined with just three pairs, all updated versions of the already popular Wayfarer, the Clubmaster, and the Balorama.
“Unleash your inner star with the Blacked Out collection by A$AP Rocky, merging Ray-Ban’s most iconic styles with Rocky’s fierce aesthetics and modern hip-hop vibe,” reads the site’s description. “Three models, one killer combo: ultra black lenses, gold-plated details, and a personalized ‘tattoo’ logo on the temple tips.”
That so-called tattoo is an AWGE tag, an acronym he’s very protective of.
Rocky added his flavor to all three classic silhouettes by thickening the arms and adding gold detailing, which can be seen on the Ray-Ban logo, and ultra-black lenses for an added low-key, cool factor.
A true purveyor of style, Rocky knows how important packaging is to consumers, so he upped the style on the typical leather case that comes with Ray-Ban shades. First, the accompanying box looks like a stack of 1,000 bills, with Rocky’s face plastered in the middle, his Testing logo, and an “Always Strive and Prosper” hit.
The cobranded leather case also matches with a gold detailed microfiber cleaning cloth.
Rocky was spotted rocking other colorways, and as noted by Highsnobiety, he previewed additional models during Milan Fashion Week, signaling that the debut collection is just the beginning.
When he was named the brand’s creative director, he waxed poetic about the brand’s 80-year history and was humbled by the opportunity to add to its already storied iconic stylings.
“I’ve always admired Ray-Ban’s ability to stay true to its roots while constantly evolving,” said Rocky. “I’m excited to be part of the strong heritage and develop the next chapter for an iconic brand like Ray-Ban.”
All three mega models are currently available on Ray-Ban’s site for $266. Get a better look at the drop below.
