Travis Scott ā Astroworld
Welcome to Astroworld. Travis Scott takes fans on a ride through his universe with his latest album. Inspired by a defunct amusement park in Houston, the album is a star-packed adventure.
The Weeknd, Drake, Stevie Wonder, and more lend their voices to the 17-song LP. Meanwhile, Scott acts as a maestro with new sounds, melodies, guests, and rhymes.
Despite its newness, La Flame recently told Beats 1 that Astroworld is an extension of his debut LP, 2015ās Rodeo, even though it comes after 2016ās Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
āIām just finishing the saga I started on my first album,ā he said. āThis is supposed to be my second album. I had to go quick, because like I said, I had all these ideas, I just had to get off real quick, but now Iām finally back home with Astroworld.ā
Mac Miller ā Swimming
Mac Miller jumps back into the water with the release of his fifth album, Swimming. The project breaks a two-year hiatus, marking his first LP since 2016ās The Divine Feminine.
The new effort features the recently-released āWhatās the Use?ā and the LP’s first single, āSelf Care.ā This is also Larry Fishermanās first release since his recent car accident and high-profile breakup from pop star Ariana Grande.
āThis time, it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to say, what kind of music I wanted to make, and it was just a lot of experimenting,ā Miller recently told Beats 1 regarding the album’s creation timeline. āWe finally landed on some type of a path.ā Go down that path below.
YG ā Stay Dangerous
YG is back. Two years after 2016ās Still Brazy, the Compton, California rapper unleashes his third major label album, Stay Dangerous.
Plenty of stars join YG for this ride, including Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, and Big Sean on āBig Bank.ā A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, Quavo, Youngboy Never Broke Again, Mozzy, and Jay 305 are also on board.
āI made this album off tequila, real-life stories, morals, and bad bi***es,ā YG wrote in promo statements for the album. Meanwhile, his rhymes remain personal throughout. āThey told me to talk to a therapist and I did,ā he raps on āDeeper Than Rap.ā āBut that donāt change the crazy shit I do, did, and live / This shit get deeper than rap.ā
H.E.R. ā I Used to Know Her: The Prelude
H.E.R. has been making a name for herself as one of R&Bās leading new voices since re-emerging with her mysterious persona. The vocal powerhouse continues to build her growing buzz with the newly-launched I Used to Know Her: The Prelude EP.
The 6-track effort features Bryson Tiller on āCouldāve Been.ā It also showcases H.E.R.ās versatility, including her spoken word poetry (āAgainst Meā) and singing (āAs I Amā). Plus, it highlights her rap skills on the D.J. Scratch-assisted āLost Souls,ā which pulls inspiration from Lauryn Hillās āLost Ones.ā
H.E.R. takes this opportunity to command attention and drop thought-provoking bars. āConfusing a celebrity with your integrity,ā she rhymes on the opening cut. āYou’re drinking Hennessy for your therapy / Can’t get no peace of mind, can’t get no serenity.”
