UPDATE: APRIL 25, 10 A.M.
Thankfully, early reports of Arenas being in a coma aren’t as detrimental as they sound, thanks to an update from Sports Illustrated‘s Tarek Fattal.
“ALIJAH ARENAS UPDATE: Arenas was in an accident driving a Cyber Truck. It caught on fire, and he inhaled a lot of smoke. According to sources, this was the reason for induced coma (protocol for smoke inhalation),” he tweeted. “Arenas suffered no major bodily injuries.”

Just a few weeks after a stellar performance at the McDonald’s All-American game, Alijah Arena was involved in a serious car accident.
The high school basketball star and son of retired NBA player Gilbert Arenas has reportedly been placed into a medically induced coma, according to ESPN.
TMZ reports that he was driving a Tesla Cybertruck when it crashed Thursday morning (April 24) and says the car “was completely mangled on the side of the road of a Los Angeles neighborhood.” The front of the car was also reportedly on fire as Arenas was taken to the hospital “in serious condition.”
ESPN adds that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the call at 4:55 am after he crashed into a tree and a fire hydrant. The outlet has also confirmed that he suffered no broken bones.
Arenas’ mother, reality star Laura Govan, wrote on Instagram, “I need all your f-cken prayers.”
Arenas has had a great year in basketball, averaging 30 points and six rebounds at Chatsworth High School. He is following in Gil’s footsteps and plans to sign a sponsorship deal with adidas, just months after committing to USC on his father’s Gil’s Arena podcast.
Gilbert has yet to address the car crash, but the podcast scheduled to be recorded this week has been canceled.
