Anthony Edwards Hilariously Tells Barack Obama To "Stand Down"

Between Starting 5, Sprint, and Aaron Rodgers’ Enigma, Netflix has been providing quality sports content lately.

Now, there’s another title to add to your lengthy queue: Court of Gold, which goes behind the scenes of basketball’s gold medal contenders at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The six-part series focuses on the ultimate winners of Team USA as well as other countries like France, Serbia, and Canada. Players, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokić, and Victor Wembanyama, suit up for their home bases.

The Americans with the most camera time are, of course, elder statemen Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Steph Curry, but that doesn’t mean some of the Olympic first-timers aren’t included, thanks to their big personalities, and that includes Anthony Edwards.

In one of the scenes, his infamous braggadocious slick talk is on display even when he’s talking to President Obama.

Obama is seen talking basketball with Joel Embiid and then referring to Anthony Edwards by saying, “He can hoop a little bit.”

Instead of laughing off the comment, Ant’s competitive nature takes over.

“Man, y’all better stand down, I’m the truth,” he responds to Obama. “These boys know.”

They continue talking hoops, as Edwards admits that every time his Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Philadelphia 76ers, Embiid seems to drop 50 points. Obama argues that despite the Wolves having three seven-footers—Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid, and Jesse Edwards—they seem to be no match for Embiid’s smaller squad.

“Hold on, hold on, hold on, now we ain’t gonna do all that,” Edwards says.

Obama continues the light roasting by calling over LeBron James and Kevin Durant into the conversation.

“It’s nothing wrong with that,” said Kevin Durant. “He ain’t lying.”

Obama ends the conversation by saluting Edwards’ confidence, saying, “You gotta have a little swagger like that.”

Despite the adidas deal, averaging nearly 30 points a night, and becoming one of the most recognizable –and charismatic– players in the league, Edwards recently admitted that he has no interest in becoming the face of the league. He’d rather place that burden on the shoulders of Victor Wembanyama.
