The four-day event of the 2024 Democratic National Convention is in the books, and a bevy of fellow politicians and celebrities came out to support the newly minted presidential hopeful Kamala Harris.
The only hitch is that there were reports that Beyoncé was set to perform the last night, and her endorsement would be huge. However, she never touched the stage.
It started as rumors on Twitter, with people hinting that a big endorsement in the form of a performance was coming, and was later “confirmed” by TMZ.
“Beyoncé is in Chicago, and getting ready to pop out for Kamala Harris on the final night of the Democratic National Convention,” TMZ wrote. “Multiple sources in the know tell us Queen Bey will be the big surprise performer as VP Harris officially accepts the Democratic party’s nomination to run for president.”
The site added that a song she’d likely sing would be ‘Freedom’ because she gave Vice President Harris permission to use it as the official Harris-Walz campaign song.
But the convention came with stars like Kerry Washington, comedian D.L. Hughley, Eva Longoria, and Harris’ family members to add a personal touch.
… And then Harris popped out, and it was pretty official that Beyoncé was a no-show.
The rumors got so bad that Beyonce’s representative gave The Hollywood Reporter an exclusive statement shutting down that she was ever set to perform on the final night of the DNC.
“Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there,” the rep told The Hollywood Reporter. “The report of a performance is untrue.”
Even politicians got on the report, including Mitt Romney who joked about Taylor Swift also making a cameo. He wouldn’t be the only Republican making a big splash at the convention, with former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger also taking the stage.
“Contrary to fake news posts, I am not the surprise guest at the DNC tonight,” Romney wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “My guess is that it will be Beyoncé or Taylor Swift. So disappointing, I know!
TMZ later recanted using Beyonce lyrics.
As you can expect, social media was furious that Beyoncé didn’t show up. See the reactions below.
