Few stars have risen to the international ranks as quickly as Tyla.
The singer hails from Johannesburg, South Africa, and is celebrating her 23rd birthday– and she’s got a lot to be thankful for.
She hopped onto the scene with her 2019 debut single ‘Getting Late,’ which she followed up with 2023’s ‘Water,’ which quickly skyrocketed up the charts thanks to a catchy hook and the accompanying dance that went viral on TikTok.
In speaking with Trevor Noah for Interview magazine, she remembers when ‘Water’ first came out, and visualizing its success before it really popped off.
“A lot of the times when I make music, I get excited because I love it, but you never really know how people will react. But when I finished “Water,” I felt in my spirit that it was going to be crazy,” she told Interview in 2023. “It sounds very dramatic, but I literally had a dream where I was watching my Spotify streams climb by the second, and this was before the song started doing well. I don’t know, maybe I have a superpower, because I saw it in a dream.”
Talent aside, she’s also one of the loves to flaunt her looks while traveling the world and performing on stage, as well as the occasional thirst trap on Instagram.
