Wasting absolutely no time, former President Donald Trump is also ripping apart the speeches made at Wednesday Night’s Democratic National Convention.

The night was full of speeches from politicians like Senator Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, and Bill Clinton. Still, by far, the most emotional came when vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz capped off the night by celebrating his family and championing his education roots.

It’s been clear that the Democrats are leaning into his Midwest sensibilities—like Obama’s joke about his closet full of weathered flannel—which includes his time coaching high school football.

His former student-athletes were front and center, speeches full of sports analogies, like when Walz referenced Donald Trump’s ties to the radical Project 2025 initiative, saying, “I coached high school football long enough to know … when somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re going to use it.”

Bright and early Thursday morning, Trump called into Fox & Friends to disparage Walz’s coach moniker and distance himself from Project 2025.

“First of all, he’s a total lightweight and he shouldn’t be even having any access to possibly being president,” Trump said. “He has no capability. They call him coach. He’s a semi-coach. He coached some football for a little while. This guy is a lightweight.”

He continues, going the ignorance-is-bliss route, claiming he doesn’t even know what Project 2025 is.

“They know I have nothing to do with it. I had no idea what it was. A group of people got together, they drew up some conservative values, very conservative values,” Trump said. “In some case perhaps they went over the line, perhaps they didn’t. I have no idea what Project 25 is.”

While Walz’s speech and heartfelt moment with his son were highlights of the night, the Democrats also brought the stars out, with Sheila E. joining John Legend on stage for a Prince tribute after a surprise speech from Oprah, who urged voters to “choose common sense over nonsense.”
