Sometimes, fan-casting actually comes true. After years of people screaming that Jason Momoa should be Lobo in the DC Films Universe, their dreams finally came true.
Deadline confirmed that Jason Momoa will play Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This news comes after the actor put down his trident as Aquaman in the now-dead DCEU for the last time in 2023’s Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
Momoa’s name was associated with the DC Comics character for some time before James Gunn and his partner Peter Safran took over the DC Comics film division.
The actor even expressed interest in playing Lobo in the past before confirming his return to the DC Comics film role. In an Instagram post, Momoa shared an old snippet from an interview about wanting to play Lobo.
“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” Momoa said. He added that if DC Comics came calling for him to take on the role his answer would be “a f*ck yeah.”
In the caption for the post, he wrote, “They called,” with James Gunn in the comments adding, “Welcome my friend.”
When production begins for the film on January 13, Momoa will become the antihero who gives zero f***s from the planet Czarnia, joining House of The Dragon star Milly Alcock, who will take on the titular role of Supergirl.
The Future Is Bright For James Gunn’s DCU
This news comes on the heels of James Gunn dropping the first trailer for Superman, which took the internet by storm. Fans were already praising Gunn for giving them a Superman film they had been longing for, and they are now saying he is cooking with the casting of Momoa as Lobo.
James Gunn has a vision for his DCU, and it’s looking very bright so far.
