Paul Pierce officially has company when it comes to NBA players who are unable to hold in bodily fluids—allegedly, at least.
Last night was Jimmy Butler’s second game as a Golden State Warrior after a contentious split with the Miami Heat. But Butler’s 21-point performance in the 107-111 loss to the Dallas Mavericks wasn’t what caught fans’ attention; it was the glaring stain on the back of Butler’s white shorts.
Fans first noticed the off-white stain towards the end of the fourth quarter as he was driving into the lane and trying to force contact with Kyrie Irving to help the Warriors eke out the win. Though he made the game-tying layup with just 17.6 seconds left, it was later overturned because Irving established a legal guarding position, confirming he drew the charge.
The stain was seen again as he walked over to the bench as the officiating team debated the call.
Despite the solid performance—which included nine rebounds, seven assists, and a block—he expressed to the media after the game that he wasn’t satisfied with his stats because he also recorded three turnovers and three fouls and even noted that his jumper felt “a little off.”
“I hate turning the ball over. I don’t think that’s what I’m supposed to be doing. That’s tough. I gotta be better,” Butler said in the video below. “Damn sure late game, at that. It is what it is now.”
Unfortunately, he didn’t mention his uniform mishap.
The game was initially a must-watch as it was supposed to also feature the Mavericks’ new big man, Anthony Davis. However, he suffered a noncontact injury that was later diagnosed as an abductor strain, causing him to miss “a significant period” of time, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Instead, Irving’s 42-point performance highlighted the game as well as Butler’s mysterious stain.
