Jonathan Majors is having a very good month. First, it was announced that he and his girlfriend, Harlem star Meagan Good, are getting married. Then he settled a lawsuit with ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari that her lawyers characterized as “very favorable.”
Majors, 35, was convicted in December 2023 of misdemeanor assault and harassment in the controversial case. After the former couple argued in the back of a ride-share vehicle, Majors was seen on video running from Jabari, who chased him down a New York City street. Then, when she returned to their apartment, he called the police after reporting that she returned from a night out and was ‘unresponsive.’ Instead, he was arrested.
Jabbari maintained previous abuse and sued Majors for defamation after he told Good Morning America that he’d never laid a hand on a woman. While his criminal case was going on, a Rolling Stone article alleged that Majors had been emotionally and physically abusive to other women dating back to his college years.
While Majors has not commented on the resolution of the case, one of Jabbari’s lawyers told Variety, “Grace Jabbari has exhibited tremendous courage throughout this very long and difficult process. As a result of her commitment to justice, the lawsuit that she filed against Jonathan Majors has been favorably settled. We hope that she can finally put this chapter behind her and move forward with her head held high.”
Majors was sentenced earlier this year to a $250 fine and a 52-week in-person counseling program.
Since the case and other allegations, Majors’ once-promising career has come to a standstill. A graduate of Yale School of Drama, the actor started gaining traction after starring in Lovecraft Country on HBO in 2020 and Harder They Fall on Netflix in 2021.
His last big film was Creed III (2023), in which he starred opposite Michael B. Jordan in his directorial debut. But his role as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was shelved, as was the highly anticipated Magazine Dreams, which was dropped by Disney. After being let go by his manager and publicist, Major recently signed on to a role in Martin Villeneuve’s upcoming thriller Merciless.Â
Good, who returns for the third season of Harlem on Jan. 23, has supported Majors throughout, attending his trial with both of their mothers.
“He actually tried to encourage me to not be with him, and I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s not going to happen,'” she recalled to People, later adding, “Honestly, the only thing which I’ve been a little bit more sensitive about now is there will be critiques—like when Jonathan and I are on the carpet. I think I’m not bothered by it, but a part of me wants to protect him because I know how we are when we are us.”
Majors and Good announced their engagement last week on the Ebony 100 red carpet.
