In what’s been a year of ups and downs for Xavier Worthy —from setting a 40-yard dash record to losing the Super Bowl a heated altercation with his former partner has boiled over into a lawsuit.

According to NBC Sports, the Kansas City Chiefs have filed a claim against his ex-fiancée, Tia Jones, seeking up to $1 million in damages and a protective order.

It begins with him being arrested for allegedly assaulting and choking a family member —later revealed to be Jones— on March 7, and the charges were dismissed the next day.

“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick told The Statesman. “Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation.”

But when he arrived home from being booked in jail, he noticed some of his prized possessions missing, including a jewelry box with $300,000 worth of goods inside and “$30,000 in cash [was] missing from the game room closet.”

The filing includes a neighbor who witnessed Jones and “her USA Track Team Coach, Tonja Buford-Bailey, and USA Track Teammate, Jessica Wright, packing Ms. Bailey’s car.”

Aside from theft, Worthy is accusing his ex of civil assault, civil battery, violation of the Texas Theft Liability Act, conversion, and trespass to chattels.

The couple’s relationship was chronicled in the affidavit, including their publicized engagement in 2024. However, they soon fell from grace in February when he asked her several times to move out after finding out she was “unfaithful,” even offering to find her a nearby apartment, which she turned down.

Now, he accuses her of assault —with photo evidence— when she scratched his face and pulled hair out of his scalp, causing “extreme pain and eventually stiffness and pain to my neck.” The civil complaint also accused Jones of attempting to extort a house, money, and cars from Worthy by way of falsifying domestic abuse allegations.

The suit adds that she allegedly destroyed his PlayStation 5, gaming desk, and the key to his Rolls-Royce.

Worthy was a standout wide receiver during his three years at UT Austin before being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He ended his rookie season with nine touchdowns and 59 passes for 638 yards.
