From the basketball court to courtrooms.
LeBron James and Bronny made history days ago as the first father-son duo to play together during an NBA game, but now they’re experiencing another shared experience related to their roles in a car accident.
From 2022, the two James men are being accused of hitting a car holding two women while driving on Pearblossom highway on Nov. 13 in Littlerock, California.
The suit was filed by two plaintiffs—owner April Almanza Lopez and driver Kiara Rae McGillen—just hours before the NBA season tipped off, with the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Both women say they were injured in the crash and have to routinely seek medical treatment and future surgery because they’re struggling with pain and are disabled. Plus, the car’s value plummeted because of the crash, so they want the James gang to pay up.
“Lopez and McGillen stated in the docs they sustained injuries that will require further medical attention. They also claimed the car they were driving was damaged and has lost value due to the wreck,” writes TMZ. “They’re suing the two NBA stars for unspecified damages.”
The exact injuries were not explained in the suit, but it states, “sustained personal injuries which caused and will continue to cause pain, discomfort and physical disability.”
The suit, filed Wednesday, comes nearly two years after the alleged accident. According to Yahoo, the Antelope Valley office of the California Highway Patrol searched for a police report filed that day but came up empty-handed. Also, the suit doesn’t even mention if the CHP was ever notified.
The court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19, 2025, which is ironically around the time of the All-Star break.
While James’ lawyers are likely handling the lawsuit related to the alleged car accident, LeBron and Bronny didn’t let that deter them from sharing that special moment on the court. King James admitted it was nice to have his son around him.
“I lost a lot of time because of this league,” he told Taylor Rooks after the 110-103 win. “Missing his things, and Bryce and Zhuri’s things, so to be able to have this moment where I am working still and I can work alongside my son, it’s one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever got from the man above, and I’m going to take full advantage of it.”
