At this point, it really seems like Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas didn’t want the world to know how often he was getting flewed out by Republican billionaire donor and alleged Nazi memorabilia collecter Harlan Crow. As we have previously reported (over and over and over again), Thomas has, for decades, accepted millions of dollars worth of free luxury vacations and other gifts, and he has consistently neglected to disclose those gifts, which all federal justices, judges, members of Congress and other officials are required to do by law. Well, according to the New York Times, Senate Democrats revealed on Saturday that Thomas failed to disclose two additional trips paid for by Crow that had not previously come to light.
In fact, Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee released a 93-page report along with about 800 pages of documents investigating ethics challenges of Supreme Court justices. The report stated that the two additional Crow-funded trips Thomas was gifted occurred in 202. Of course, despite the way Republicans foam at the mouth whenever Democrats are accused of any ethics violations, including the receiving of gifts, friends, and spokespeople of Crow and Thomas are denying that either man has engaged in anything unethical at all.
From the Times:
In a statement after the report became public on Saturday, Michael Zona, a spokesman for Mr. Crow, emphasized that his client had turned over the information “voluntarily” and denounced the inquiry as “political, partisan, and unconstitutional from the start.”
And in a posting on X on Saturday, Mark Paoletta, a friend of Justice Thomas’s, dismissed the report as “pathetic.” Mr. Paoletta, a former top lawyer for the White House budget office in the last Trump administration who is set to reprise that role in the next one, has offered public defenses of the justice amid scrutiny of his ties to Mr. Crow.
Again, Supreme Court justices are required by law to disclose the kind of gifts Thomas has been receiving from Crow, which were numerous and massively extravagant. Thomas has been found to have violated the law over and over again to the tune of millions of dollars that went undisclosed. So, the only thing “pathetic” is how selective the so-called “party of law and order” really cares about the law or about the amount of sway rich people have in the world of politics.
They claim they hate the establishment, but they defend it every time a prominent Republican is under fire.
That’s pathetic.
