Before he could even lace up cleats for his first game of the NFL season, Tyreek Hill‘s already embroiled in controversy.
But it’s not his fault.
Hill was driving to the stadium when the police pulled him over. Video of the incident shows him lying on the street, near the curb, with four officers surrounding him and placing him in cuffs.
Reports say he was only briefly detained before he was released and finally allowed to make his way to the stadium to play the Jacksonville Jaguars. He didn’t let the police run in affect his game, in fact it may have given him an extra boost.
In the highlight of the Miami Dolphins– Jaguars game, he ran an 80-yard touchdown and did a celebration where one of his teammates pretended to arrest him.
He addressed the incident after the game, where the Dolphins eeked out a 20-17 win.
“Little did I know, that was quite a surprise on the way,” Hill said. “But you know what, at the end of the day, I got a job to do, and my job is to come inside of this stadium and be great.”
But when asked what specifically led to the arrest, he declined, saying, “I’m not going to comment on any of that,” Hill said. “Whenever stuff come out, we just gonna let bygones be bygones. Move on and learn from it. That’s it.”
Miami Dade police have since released a statement on the matter, revealing that they’ve opened an Internal Affairs investigation to determine what happened. Until then, one of the officers involved has been placed on administrative duties.
