Kelly Rowland and Method Man Will Smolder Together In Upcoming Romantic Comedy

In 2021, DeVon Franklin announced he’d be producing a film based on Michael Todd’s viral sermons, which became the NY Times bestseller Relationship Goals. But with the SAG and Writer’s Guild strikes, the project was put on the back burner. Now, the movie is back on for Amazon MGM and we know who’s starring in it.
Kelly Rowland and Clifford “Method Man” Smith will be in the lead roles, it was announced recently. Rowland was last seen in Tyler Perry’s 2024 Netflix film Mea Culpa which co-starred Trevante Rhodes. Smith co-starred with Mary J. Blige on all four seasons of the 50 Cent-produced hit Starz show Power Book II: Ghost which wrapped in 2024.
Though the film was originally set to be penned by Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar) and Cory Tynan (Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day), it is now credited to relatively new screenwriter Laura Lekkos, who took over after their original drafts. Todd’s book was based on his sermons at Transformation Church, which were shown on his social media platforms. The book was on the bestseller list for 13 weeks, and Todd’s single, “Relationship Goals: Revelation,” went to #10 on the Billboard charts.
Relationship Goals is a faith-based film in the Franklin vein. It is described as “a funny and inspiring romantic comedy on how to find lasting love and sustain a healthy relationship at every stage of courtship.” Robin Thede of Black Lady Sketch Show and Annie Gonzalez (Flamin’ Hot, Lopez vs. Lopez, Gentefied) have already been announced as part of the cast.
Franklin may have taken some cues from the book and upcoming movie as he announced his engagement over the weekend to celebrity trainer Megan Castillo.
“Finding Maria has been one of God’s greatest blessings in my life, so I wanted the proposal to be as special as our love,” Franklin told People. “We went to Maui for vacation, I told her we were gonna do a photo shoot and during the photo shoot, I surprised her with the proposal! It was truly a magical moment and I can’t wait to spend a magical life with Maria!”
